Academic achievement is often attributed to a combination of intelligence, hard work and effective study skills. The advent of digital learning has ushered an innovative era in education, with a significant impact on the reading culture amongst children. This metamorphosis is gradually phasing out traditional models of instruction for reading and replacing them with vibrant, interactive, and child-friendly digital platforms. A remarkable balance appears to be striking between playful outdoor activities on the yard and the digital academic exercises, creating an ambience that is both conducive for learning and appealing to the children. This study endeavours to explore the merger of kids on the playground with online reading lessons and assesses the resultant effects on literacy levels.

The target group consisted of 50 students of mixed abilities from a public middle school. These students were provided with study skills instruction for a full 50-minute class period once a week for a three-month period. The study skills training included a combination of time management skills, organization tips, effective note-taking strategies, active reading techniques and self-review strategies.
